Engagement & Fee Structure
When you bring me onto a matter, my goal is to make the process smooth, clear, and predictable — while giving you the flexibility you need for complex litigation.
How We Begin
Before starting any assignment, we’ll confirm:
-
Scope – Exactly what the work covers (e.g., motion drafting, research, discovery, trial support).
-
Fee Structure – Hourly or flat fee, depending on the matter and complexity.
-
Estimated Timeline – A practical time frame for delivering the work, based on the agreed scope.
Nothing starts until we’re aligned on these points. This ensures clarity for both of us from the outset.
Hourly vs. Flat Fee
-
Hourly – Works best for matters where the scope is likely to evolve, where additional documents, depositions, or research requests may arise.
-
Flat Fee – Available for clearly defined, self-contained projects with limited likelihood of scope changes.
If the scope expands after we begin — for example, if additional deposition transcripts, new discovery, or extra motions are added — we’ll revisit the fee arrangement before moving forward with the additional work.
Why I Structure It This Way
Litigation is unpredictable. This approach ensures you get accurate, high-quality work without cost disputes or compressed deadlines due to unexpected scope changes. It also allows me to give each project the time and care it deserves, whether that’s a quick-turnaround MSJ opposition or a multi-phase trial brief.
